Blind Cat Rescued from Shelter Destroyed by Tornado Gets a New Name
A very lucky cat lost one of its nine lives but gained a new name. A recent tornado in Texas left an animal shelter in shambles, but luckily the community was there to help.
Brave rescuers searched through the debris to save all the animals - including a blind cat in need of a name. The dirty and wet cat was immediately dubbed “Nado” by a volunteer, and he was taken to a foster home to be cleaned up and looked after.
Thankfully, Nado and all the other animals at the shelter were uninjured and are in new animal shelters or foster homes.
DIY Cat-Friendly Water Bowl Planter
If you’ve got a green thumb and a cat who loves exploring, this is the perfect DIY for you.
You’ll need:
A low, wide planter (big enough for a couple of plants and another smaller bowl)
Potting soil
A smaller bowl to fit in the planter
1-2 cat grass or catnip plants
Place some potting soil in the wide planter and add the cat friendly plants around the edge, in a semi circle shape. Add the smaller water bowl, making sure that it is placed so that your cat can easily drink from it. Add water to the smaller bowl and you’re all set.
Your cat will now have an enriching water bowl that also serves as a snack bar. Any water your cat might spill while drinking goes to water the plants, so if your furry friend usually makes a mess, your plants will prosper! Keep in mind that you may need to periodically exchange this with your cat’s regular water bowl if you find that they are eating large quantities of the plants at one time.
We hope your curious cat enjoys their new interactive water bowl!

Why do Cats Sleep so Much?
Cats need, on average, 12 to 15 hours of sleep per day, a lot more than the 7 to 8 needed for humans. But why do cats sleep so much? Scientists have a few theories.
First, cats don’t sleep in one long chunk of time, so breaking this up allows them to sleep more over longer periods of time. Evolutionary clues tell us that cats’ ancestors had to hunt, eat their prey, and rest after - so modern day cats somewhat mimic this process by having short bursts of energy followed by cat naps. Before being domesticated, cats needed to conserve their energy to hunt in order to survive, so perhaps modern day cats are following their ancestors’ footsteps.
Experts also say cats sleep for the same reasons as humans sometimes: they might sleep if they are bored, depressed, or ill. If your cat suddenly starts sleeping much more than usual, or if your cat seems to sleep more than 16 hours a day, get them checked out by the vet to make sure they’re happy and healthy. However, be aware that sometimes when your cat appears to be sleeping, they may just be resting, probably looking how humans look while watching Netflix!
