Scientists are Creating a GMO Hypoallergenic Cat
We know quite a few cat lovers who suffer through allergies to cuddle with cats: but is there a future free of sniffling? It seems like it!
Scientists in the US have found a way to block the most common source of cat allergies, a protein called Fel d 1, with genome editing technology. This would help the 15% of the population who are allergic to cats.
So far their research trials have shown success on cells, but more research is needed before this can be approved to test fully. But don’t be too bummed about waiting for this research; cat food that inhibits the Fel d 1 protein in their saliva already exists, and scientists have already been working on a cat allergy vaccine, as well.

Looking to treat your fluffy feline to something delicious and nutritious? Try these healthy homemade cat treats!
What you’ll need:
½ cup coconut oil
½ cup coconut flour
2 medium sized mashed cooked sweet potatoes
¼ cup gelatin powder
1 can of tuna
1 egg
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
Mix all the ingredients in a bowl, adding extra coconut flour if needed to make a dough consistency.
Roll the dough into small 1 inch balls and flatten with a fork.
Bake for 20 minutes until lightly browned.
Let them cool and enjoy!
You can store these in the fridge for a couple of weeks, or in the freezer for a couple of months - although if your cat has a say, we don’t think they’ll last that long!
How to Lengthen Your Cat’s Lifespan
We all love our cats and want the best and longest life possible for them. Here are four tips from experts that will help lengthen your cat’s lifespan.
Clean the litter box frequently, as it will help you see any irregularities and deal with them quickly. Changes in the litter box could show signs of diabetes (shown through frequent urination) or of other illnesses.
Keep your cat indoors, as an indoor cat’s lifespan is much longer than an outdoor cat’s. Keeping a cat inside, or even on small supervised trips outdoors, greatly reduces their risk of interaction with diseases, predators, and other environmental risks. This means their inside environment, however, needs to be extremely enriching and fun!
Spay or neuter your cat in order to prevent many risks, including several cancers and illnesses. Spayed cats live 39% longer and neutered cats live 62% longer than their counterparts.
Don’t smoke around your pet in order to keep their lungs healthy. Cats living in a smoking household are much more likely to get lung cancer, and are twice as likely to develop lymphoma, which is unfortunately fatal. If you’re a smoker, smoking outside will help your cat stay happy and healthy.
Following these tips along with regular vet check ups is a great way to ensure a healthy life for your cat companion.
