Kitty See, Kitty Do
According to recent research, cats have been found to mimic their owner’s personalities, specifically showing traits like extroversion, openness, and even emotional stability.
Researchers studied over 3,000 cat owners and asked them about their personalities as well as their cat’s. They looked at the “Big Five Inventory” personality traits: agreeableness, extroversion, openness, conscientiousness, and neuroticism.
They found that certain dominant traits in owners were reflected in their cats; for example, owners who rated higher in the neuroticism category more often had cats with behavioral problems. Often extroverted cats had extroverted owners as well. Surprisingly this research builds upon other research as to how parenting styles affect childrens’ personalities. This makes sense though, since many people see their cats as members of the family and form strong social bonds with them.
There’s still more research to be done before we can be sure how much influence humans have on their cats’ personalities, but it does seem like you make an impact in your cat’s life!
Cat Breed of the Day: Snowshoe Cat
This is our first installment of Cat Breed of the Day, where we highlight one of the many breeds of domestic cats! If you have a breed you’d like to learn about, email us at meow@dailypurrcats.com.
Today’s cat is the Snowshoe breed, first found in Philadelphia in the 1960’s.
The Snowshoe breed has traits from both Siamese and American Shorthair cats and is a medium-large breed that tends to live long and healthy lives. They're sociable and love to live with families, they’re active, and they like to chat! The breed gets their name from their white paws that resemble snowshoes. These paws, along with an upside down V marking on their face and blue eyes, are telltale signs of the breed.
Snowshoe cats tend to be loyal and friendly, interacting well with children and even cat friendly dogs. Snowshoe cats need a lot of interaction as well as exercise, so puzzle toys and running wheels are their cup of tea. Snowshoe cats don’t shed much but still need a weekly brushing and regular nail trims. Fun fact, Snowshoe cats are born completely white, and later develop their colored patches. Overall, the Snowshoe breed of cats loves to cuddle, chat, get active, and have fun!

Take Meow to the Ballgame
Have you seen any of the recent viral videos of cats accidentally sneaking onto sports fields? There have been quite a few cats accidentally stuck on baseball fields, and the chase that follows always entertains, since the humans fail miserably at trying to catch the lightning fast felines.
We do love seeing a cat having some fun at the ballpark, but cat experts say it’s not all fun and games; getting stuck on a field with a roaring crowd isn’t exactly a relaxing experience for a proportionally small cat.
So how could we help a cat in this situation, should we ever surprisingly happen to witness it? Cat experts say ideally the game would come to a halt, the crowd would be silent, and the cat would be lured to an exit with trails of food or treats. Although it may seem like a lot to ask of a major sporting event, it would definitely make any cat stuck in the situation a bit more relaxed.
We hope this advice can be put into practice for the next cat who accidentally becomes a member of the team!
