Adopted Cat Becomes Adventurer
Liebchen, a handsome orange tabby, was adopted from an animal shelter near Aspen Colorado by a nature loving couple who were charmed by his half white mustache and mischievous grin.

Liebchen means “sweetheart” in German, but don’t let the name fool you - this cat is sweet but strong, and he loves to adventure. Liebchen went on his first hike at only ten weeks old, and has now gone skiing, camping, paddle boarding, cycling, and snowmobiling!

Liebchen’s favorite activity is hiking, and he dons a harness and leash so that he can explore the local wildlife safely. He loves jumping off of logs and leading the way on the trail. His owners say that Liebchen rescued them, and encourage those wanting a cat to adopt. They believe there is a rescue cat out there for everyone, and that any cat can become your future adventure cat and best friend.

Cat Breed of the Day: Bengal
The Bengal breed was registered in 1996, but cats with the same mix of Asian snow leopard and domestic cat existed as early as the 1800s. Known for their beautiful spotted coats and loud chatting, Bengal cats are affectionate and active. Bengal cats have at least four to five generations separating them from their wild ancestors, which allows them to enjoy a domestic lifestyle.

Bengals are extremely energetic and require an enriching home environment and access to the outdoors, like going on walks on a leash. Bengals love to snuggle their owners and are extremely affectionate, but they’d never be called a couch potato; without daily playtime and enrichment they get restless, upset, and act out. A house with a Bengal needs to have many places for them to climb and play.

Bengals only need one weekly brushing and may even enjoy occasional baths. They need regular preventative vet check ups to look out for predisposed conditions, and most of all they need physical and mental stimulation. Bengals cats are great for people who love playing with their cats and are ready to take care of their needs. In return, Bengal cats offer their love and affection (and usually love telling you they love you!).

What is Your Cat Thinking?
Ever wanted to read your cat's mind? Well, you can! By reading cats’ body language and looking at their behaviors, we can interpret what they’re thinking. Here are a few behaviors that express certain feelings:

  • When they’re happy, cats will knead, purr, blink their eyes slowly, or even drool. They’ll feel safe playing or sleeping out in the open and might groom or interact with the family.

  • When they’re angry, cats might hiss, pin their ears back, swat, swish their tail, or hide. For example, when petting your cat they may go from happy to irritated quickly, so watch their tail to know when they’ve had enough love.

  • When a cat is afraid they might have stiffened posture, pant or open their mouth, have dilated eyes, push their ears back, or tuck their tail. Just like humans, they may avoid eye contact when nervous.

  • When cats are stressed they might hide or avoid interaction. Hiding under a bed for long periods of time means something is wrong, and if your cat is hiding they might need to go to the vet in case they’re sick.

Every cat is unique, so the above guidelines may help, but you’ll need to study how your cat acts in certain situations to better “read their mind.”
